Before any discussion of wiring begins, buy this product: the VEX Extension Cable Retaining Clip. It's dirt cheap; it costs $4.99 for a 10-pack. It is, hands-down, the biggest bang for the buck of VEX products. It's just a little u-shaped piece of plastic, with a gap along the long edge. Take a cable junction and wedge it into the clip and it will NEVER COME UNDONE by accident. Without it, these connectors come undone in about 2 seconds, and the pins themselves are extremely fragile and break or bend quite easily. Before VEX created this product, a team's best bet was to tape the junction, but over time the connection tends to come apart within the tape-shroud, which then makes troubleshooting really difficult.
